Apapun pilihannya MS Sharepoint membutuhkan IIS 6.0 yang dimiliki oleh Windows 2003 sebagai host serta MS SQL 2000 SP3 / MS SQL 2005 sebagai tempat penyimpanan konfigurasi dan data. Instalasi MS Sharepoint sangat mudah, terutama dengan adanya wizard pada saat instalasi, namun pada dasarnya ada 2 tipe konfigurasi yaitu:
Single Server Server Farm Single Server
Pada tipe konfigurasi ini, semua komponen servis WSS (Windows Sharepoint Services) diinstall didalam satu server yang sama.

halo Cak Riwut, Salam kenal Cak sudah mengimplementasikan Microsoft Sharepoint ya ? Saya boleh nanya dong ya, kebetulan kantor saya sedang mendeploy Ms Sharepoint 2007 dengan kelas Farm Menengah. Microsoft Sharepoint adalah produk Microsoft yang dapat digunakan sebagai media berbagi informasi (sharing point). Tujuannya adalah mendekatkan proses berbagi informasi (dengan menggunakan web) - ke pengguna yang melakukan bisnis (business user).
Sebelum munculnya MS Sharepoint, untuk membangun sebuah situs yang digunakan dalam proses bisnis; dibutuhkan peran seorang System Administrator. System Administrator akan melakukan proses persiapan situs, implementasi, pembuatan isi dan pengisian data.
Padahal belum tentu seorang System Administrator mengerti tentang kebutuhan bisnis yang diemban oleh situs tersebut.

Ever trying to explore %root\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\Template\1033 (figure-1)? You will found where the magic of SharePoint template’s coming from. Every time you create new site in SharePoint, you must define which site style you’re going to make, and every site style has predefined template in these directories. For example, if you make News site, then the corresponding template directory will be SPSNEWS etc.

SharePoint 2003 has come with very easy user interface and many automated (template) form. You can leave traditional way of creating new table and corresponding form entry to SharePoint. Whatever list you made, SharePoint will automatically add the first instantly visible column name “Title” (unless you’ve made custom list definition). The “Title” column is special because it has two consecutive column view, one which is linked to Context Menu, and the other one is linked to item URL. (Figure 1)
